The Kaduwela Municipal Council division belongs to the Colombo administrative District. This area is bounded by the Kelani River to the north, by the Nakadamulla Canal/ Digala Deniya Pita Canal to the east, Puwakgahadeniya tract/ Medi Ela Yaya/ Bandaradeniya to the west and Sri Lanka-Japan Friendship Road/ Diyawanna Lake/ Diyawanna Swamp to the west.

The Kaduwela Municipal Council division belongs to the Colombo administrative District. It enjoys the top place among municipal divisions in Sri Lanka in terms of size, with a land area of 91.76 square kilometres. It is equivalent to 13.1% of the total land area of the Colombo District. The total population of this area in 2024 was recorded as 277,918 according to the 2024 enumeration phase of the Population and Housing Census conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics.
