The Kaduwela Municipal Council conducted an anti-narcotics programme for 250 Grade-12 students of the Athurugiriya Mahamathya Vidyalaya on 10th July 2019 under the leadership of the Lord Mayor. The keynote address of this programme was delivered by Mrs. Maheshi Madhuwanthi, a Narcotics Education Officer at the National Authority for the Prevention of Dangerous Drugs. A sapling was also planted by the Lord Mayor in the course of the day.

The main objectives of this programme were to enlighten schoolchildren on narcotics and drug abuse and to prevent schoolchildren from recourse to substance abuse.
