The Kaduwela Municipal Council division belongs to the Colombo administrative District. This area is bounded by the Kelani River to the north, by the Nakadamulla Canal/ Digala Deniya Pita Canal to the east, Puwakgahadeniya tract/ Medi Ela Yaya/ Bandaradeniya to the west and Sri Lanka-Japan Friendship Road/ Diyawanna Lake/ Diyawanna Swamp to the west.

The Kaduwela Municipal Council division belongs to the Colombo administrative District. It enjoys the top place among municipal divisions in Sri Lanka in terms of size, with a land area of 91.76 square kilometres. It is equivalent to 13.1% of the total land area of the Colombo District. The total population was reported as 281,282 by the end of the year 2020.
